About Tony Nash
Tony Nash started his first internet business in 1996. He has been working with his brother, sister and brother-in-law since 1998. He started Booktopia on a $10 per day budget back in February 2004. It took 3 days to sell the first book. Twelve years on Booktopia now sells one item every 8 seconds. The business has had no external investment. In 2007 it started stocking its first title. There are now 120,000 titles and 750,000 units in stock ready-to-ship.
Eight years ago Booktopia was based in 450 square metres of office and warehouse. In 2014 the company moved to a new Headquarters and Distribution Centre with a floor space of 10,000 square metres investing millions of dollars of automation. The business currently employs 125 people.
In 2015 Booktopia made two acquisitions, Angus & Robertson Bookworld and Dirt Cheap Cameras. The combined businesses will take revenues for FY2016 to $82 million. In 2014 Booktopia won the Telstra Medium Sized Business of the year award for NSW and became the first ever company to make the BRW Fast 100 for six years straight from 2009 to 2014. It also won the Smart Company Community Award for its philanthropic program supporting indigenous literacy, writers’ festivals and readers’ conferences.
